PayPal Scams: fake PayPal bill by email

Even you do not have a paypal account you will likely sooner or later, receive a bill for paypal. Or something on paypal. Rest assured, this is false, fake and a scam. If you don't have a paypal account you can't be billed by paypal. And if you do have a PayPal account you're not going to receive a bill by email or text that does not come directly from paypal. And of course you can always verify by logging into your paypal account directly. There is a bill on your paypal account when you were logged in, and you believe it is false there is a process to remove that too, shown further down this page. Here is one example of a completely false scam bill sent by email from a scammer.

Paypal says:

Phishing emails aim to obtain your secure information, passwords, or account numbers. These emails use deceptive means to try and trick you, like forging the sender's address. Often, they ask for the reader to reply, call a phone number, or click on a web link to steal personal information. If you receive a suspicious email, FORWARD it to phishing@paypal.com. Our security experts can take a look to determine if it's a fake. If it is, we'll get the source of the email and shut it down as quickly as possible. Reporting these emails helps protect yourself and everyocancel an invoicene else, too.
There are some hints about identifying scam email below, but it's often difficult to be sure if something is real or fake since scammers adjust their tactics. So, if you have the slightest doubt, send it to our experts for investigation.

How to cancel a bill on PayPal

If the bill does appear in your dashboard when you log into PayPal, and you bel;ieve it is fraudulent, here's what to do:

1. From the dashboard, click the "Recent Activity" link.
2. Click on "view details" for the pending invoice or click on the ">".paypal scam invoice
3. You should see the option the PAY or CANCEL the invoice. Click CANCEL.
4. Write a message, if desired, to the account that sent the invoice, like. "**bleep** off scammer".
5. Click the confirmation button shows up in my completed activity as "Canceled - Invoice Received" and there is a strike-thru on the amount.

What to do, if you PAID the "invoice"

It is unlikely you will get your money back, but you can file a dispute with PayPal for fraud:

  1. Go to PayPal's Resolution Center at paypal.com/disputes/
  2. Click Report a Problem
  3. Scroll through your list of transactions until you come across the fraudulent invoice. Click the white bubble next to the listing and click Continue in the bottom-right corner
  4. Follow the onscreen steps to complete your dispute
