Scam Money Transfers
Example - Compensation for your past effort
Akeen M Markons, Ayead Akpali
Here's an intriguing scam. The scammer, using a name like
"Akeen M Markons" claims that he has already contacted you, and in fact, owes
you money for "previous work". So, he's ready to happily send you a check
for $1.3 million dollars! Of course, it's a scam. It is an AFF (Advance Fee
Fraud). The check he sends will be a counterfeit and will bounce, but by then
you will have already wired him (which will not bounce) money to cover various
handling fees.

Some of the other
obvious signs that this is a scam are highlighted below, such as poor
spelling , use of free Yahoo/Hotmail/etc email accounts, proposals that make no
sense, etc.:

I have
mapped out as a compensation and wrote on your favour a check worth of
Us$1.300,000.00.
So, you can now contact my secretary in Benin republic, Mr. ayead akpari. on
his e-mail address ( ayead_akpali00@myway.com ) ask him to send you the total of
$1.300.000.00 which I kept for your compensation for all the past efforts
and
attempts to assist me in this matter. Bear in mind that this $1.300,000.00
is in
draft, not cash, so you need to
send to him your full names and address as
where
this draft/check will be posted/delivered. I appreciated your efforts at
that time
very much.
So feel free to get in touched with him and furnish him with the below
information
to enable him send the Bank Draft to you at your own expense as I have done
enough
by allocating such huge amount to you. Even my current partner is not happy
that i
have to allocate such amount to you bearing in mind your onchalant attitude
