Product Scams and False Advertisng: PC Antispyware

Product Scams - Scam Anti-Spyware Software:
PC Antispyware

You may have seen an advertisement for "PC Antispyware" on a website, tv, radio or in a newspaper or magazine? You may have thought that the advertising claims seemed patently false and exaggerated and wondered why the government was allowing them to get away with it. Here are the reports and information about this scam.

Report from a victim of PC Antispyware, date April 7, 2008, presented in its entirety.

There is a company that I believe infects your computer with some type of spy ware and the spy or adware induces popup ads that tell you that your computer is infected and to buy their anti spyware to get rid of it.

Symantic, Stop Sign, Adaware, Super Antispy and AVG Antispyware have all been unable to remove this spyware.  I have cleaned my computer with all of them and the popup ads are still there.

The popup ads appear whether I am connected to the internet or not.

The name of the company that has the popup ads is PC Antispyware.  I tried to email them through their contact email address but it came up as email doesn't exist.  The website is http://antispyware-reviews.biz/?wmid=4663&pwebmid=R3n1c2Bg8A

What credible reports are there about PCAntispyware?

Despite a positive review on the shill website mentioned in the complaint above, there are many documented reports of PCAntispyware being a scam.  Two such are:

PCAntispyware is considered to be a hacked anti-spyware application (which is intended to look like PCCleaner, a legitimate package). PCAntispyware infects the system using trojans.  Its goal is to scare the user/victim into purchasing the full package.

Once loaded onto a pc, PCAntispyware generates false alerts in the form of pop-ups and system notifications that warn the user of an infection. In reality, the "infection:" is unusually nonexistent.

PCAntispyware is a scam.  Do NOT download or buy it. There are means to block it ( and block pc-antispyware.com using your HOSTS file) and to remove it (see this page: http://www.superantispyware.com/ ).

A shill is a crony who provides false or unwitting positive testimony for a product, even though the poroduct is a scam.  Shills often profit via commission based sales fro the products they recommend.

Based in Venezuela, they are not subject to U.S. laws.  In fact, the leader of Venezuela has made his hatred for America pretty plain and hostile.  We think it would be foolish for Americans to do business with Venezuela at a time when they seek to do us harm. In other words, the recommendation of "antispyware-reviews.biz" isn't worth the proverbial bucket of spit.

The pc-antispyware.com website:

The first thing you will notice is that you cannot find any contact information: no company address, phone number, names of any personnel, nothing except an online form to fill out for support. For a company that is selling a product or service, that is a clear sign of a scam!

Next, no Whois information is available, as this is a private registration, with the owner's name deliberately hidden. They could be basing this scam anywhere: Russia, Venezuela, China, anywhere.
