Scam Money Transfers
Example -
David Cowbell,
"looking for an Au Pair or Nanny that is Flexible with our time. I work for Textile Company in United Kingdom"

Did you receive an email from a "David Cowbell" who  is "looking for an Au Pair or Nanny that is Flexible with our time. I work for Textile Company in United Kingdom"? These scams often start out sounding like a legitimate business transaction, but as the victim corresponds with the scammer, it starts to become strange.  The foreign businessman wants you to either deposit a check or make a credit card charge, far in excess of the costs for your product or service, then he wants you to take the excess and give it to another agent, a hotel, someone who must "book cars" or whatever.  Of course, your response should always be "No, I never wire money, nor deposit or cash checks on behalf of other people."

In reality, it is all a scam.  David Cowbell (not his real name, obviously) hopes to con you into sending money for various "fees" to free the fortune.  If you would like a step by step explanation of how this type of "Advance Fee Fraud" works, click here!

Notice (highlighted below) some of the other obvious signs that this is a scam are poor spelling , use of free Yahoo/Hotmail/etc email accounts, proposals that make no sense, etc.:

Scam email:

Notice the pathetically poor grammar, spacing and syntax, especially from a presumed educated Englishman of middle class income or more.  Does this read like anyone who grew up in Great Britain?

On 1/12/08, the victim wrote back:

I am very sorry but I have accepted a job offer already. Just out of curiosity, I was wondering where you found me? I thought I deactivated my accounts.

To which the scammer responded, and revealed his game all along: the money transfer scam - he sends you a fake check, and you wire real money, either to him or his partner:
